Fun fact: Most things, when they go through the mail, have to have somewhere on the package a short description of what's actually inside. Usually, this is innocuous enough, but if you happen to be purchasing marital aids online, the package might come labeled, embarrassingly, "silicone sculpture" - which isn't fooling anyone. As a result, anyone snooping through your mail who comes across a package labeled "silicone sculpture" might reasonably be able to deduce that your relationship situation is not wholly satisfactory. Such a deduction might be reinforced by the discovery of other articles of mail, such as what is clearly exercise equipment, or cards from a dietary support program, which could further indicate that the individual in question sees his or her own self as the root cause of the aforementioned dissatisfaction. Such was the case with Sandy Miller, who at the age of 42 had begun to wonder if, perhaps, there were not enough fish in the sea after all.

Dagon regularly checked in on Sadie over the course of a month or so, familiarizing itself with her habits. The vampire had identified her as a likely prospect based on precisely the postal situation described above, and set about learning her routine. Dagon didn't have to encourage Sadie to loathe her own body, or to cheat on her diet. In the end, all Dagon had to do was convince her that all her efforts at self-improvement had been for nothing. It hid itself in her home, extending its ability to cloud and confuse perceptions to cover her with an illusion of its own design - one almost identical to her actual self, but a little heavier, the face a little more lined, the eyes a little more tired - until every night Sadie was greeted with an image of herself in a slightly worse state. Seeming to deteriorate with each passing day, she eventually stopped going out altogether. She abandoned the diet. She sequestered herself in her apartment, and ultimately stopped taking calls from friends.

When Sadie began researching online for chemical solutions to the problem of still being alive, Dagon arranged for her to find her browser open to a page suggesting an alternative solution: radical cosmetics testing. When she made the call, and volunteered to be picked up and taken to the testing facility, Tom Van was there to help her into the car.
